About I Was Here
Introduction
I have created “I was here” to easily save locations of any places of interest, nice holiday addresses, cabins, etc. So that I can find out exactly where it was later.
It works like this: Open ‘I was here’ and press +. Ready. Or if you use the widget: Tap the widget… Boom! And done.
Basic functions:
- Save your location really quick, wherever you are. Also very practical if you want to remember where your bike or car is parked.
- Save any location using the Pin drop method
- Save Point of Interests using the POI add method
- Share a saved location to your navigation app of choice
- Share a location from Apple Maps to “I was here”
- Excellent search
- Privacy by Design: The app determines your location only during use. Your location data is not shared to anyone, unless you do it yourself
Expert functions:
- Send lat/lon via Sharing to the app
- Send lat/lon via urlscheme
For more info see the support section.
‘I was here’ is free and doesn’t show ads. Are you happy with the app? Spread the word, send me a note. And please consider buying me a coffee. See the donation section. This motivates to keep the app in development.
Enjoy discovering!
Cheers,
Touchinski
Support / FAQ
How to use a saved location in your navigation app
Transfer any saved location to your installed Maps or Navigation app and used this to navigate to this address again. As you can see there are three ways to go from a location to navigation.
Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, Tom Tom Go and Maps.me are currently supported and will show up automatically when installed on your device.
How to add a location from Apple Maps
Share a location from within the Maps app with I Was Here is simply done with the Share button. Select I Was Here and select Post. The location will be added right away.
How to add latitude/longitude coordinates
If you want to add one or more locations by it’s coordinates, you can use the import CSV method as described above.
A single location can also be added with clever use of the sharing function.
For example, create a note with only the coordinates you want to add. Share this note with the default Share button in iOS. Select I Was Here and select Post. The location will be added right away.
Make sure the lat and lon are separated by a comma, like so:
52.35993,4.88540
Or just select the text containing the coordinates and use the Share function in the selection popup.
How to add coordinates with a deeplink
Another way to add a location is by using the deeplink. Enter this in Safari with your specific coordinates:
ikwashier://?ll=52.35993,4.88540
// Or with optional description
ikwashier://?ll=52.35993,4.88540&q=De%20Nachtwacht
Can I backup my location data?
Yes, with the export feature on the settings page all your locations can be saved as a CSV file. This feature is available after an In App Purchase and also enabled the import CSV feature.
What can I do with the exported CSV file?
A CSV (Comma Separated Values) file is a file format used to store and exchange data between different software applications. With a CSV file, you can work with data in a spreadsheet format, using a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and Apple Numbers. Some of the actions that can be performed with a CSV file include importing and exporting data to and from database software, using spreadsheet software to sort and filter the data, and generating reports based on the data contained in the file. CSV files can also be used to interchange data between different computer systems, making them an essential tool in data management, analysis, and transfer between different applications and platforms. Overall, CSV files are a straightforward and practical way to store and manipulate data in a way that is accessible to a wide range of applications and users.
Can I export locations to other apps?
Yes, if the app supports importing straightforward CSV files this is possible. i.e. Topo GPS can import your locations as Waypoints.
Can I import locations from other apps?
Yes, as long as the CVS file contains at least the following header columns:
ID, Date, Address, Latitude, Longitude, Altitude, Description
Mandatory fields are Latitude and Longitude. All other fields may be empty. In this case Date will become the current date and Altitude will become default 0 meters. The address will be reverse geocoded if possible.
For example:
ID,Date,Address,Latitude,Longitude,Altitude,Description
1,2016-06-17 09:11:36 +0000,"Vangsgata, 5700 Voss, Noorwegen",60.62921659095271,6.418693056336062,,"Tre Brør café"
// Or minimal. Address will be reverse geocoded.
ID,Date,Address,Latitude,Longitude,Altitude,Description
,,,60.62921659095271,6.418693056336062,,
